When I made my last post, I really was just doing it for the few RL people I know who were aware I was in line for this new job ... I didn't know I'd get a slew of well-wishers, LOL. So rather than answer every comment, I'll just make another post.
For obvious reasons, I'm not giving many details. It's on the editorial staff of a rather large specialty publication in the Midwestern U.S. (over 100,000 readers). Basically, I will be in charge of a bunch of writers as well as writing myself. The pay is not enough to retire upon, but let's just say it's far better than I've gotten before, there's a good chance of pay increases on a regular schedule, and foreign things like "paid vacation" and "medical insurance" are involved. I haven't been to a doctor in almost 8 years, so this is a Good Thing.

yoiebear, there's a good chance I'll be much closer to you, driving-distance. I think you might know of the place of which I speak.)
When I began my paid writing career many eons ago, I had a really good boss and challenging work, but really crappy hours and pay. When I moved here for my next job, a supposed step up, the pay wasn't much better, and the bosses turned out to be really shitty. For the past several years I've cobbled together a living from various concurrent part-time jobs and writing gigs, and have been halfway happy - hey, it was better than that shitty-boss job I just told you about. But I always had my eye open for something that meant I could concentrate on one office, one job, etc., with decent pay. Hopefully I have found that - at least for the next few years.
