OST thoughts

I couldn't post this at any communities; I worry it'd be seen as too 'shippy or partisan for an argument, which happily hasn't yet happened anywhere I moderate (that's about my only role in POTC fandom these days).

Anyway. I had thought before seeing "On Stranger Tides" that the character of Philip, the new young man, would be the substitute for Will Turner. Upon watching once and thinking it over off and on during the week, I think Angelica might be a closer substitution in some ways. She had a peaceful life before Jack showed up and corrupted that with piracy - like Will, but in a different way. She, like Will in part of the second and third movies, is on a quest to save her father. Both are willing to sacrifice themselves to save said fathers.

And then there's the verbal sparring. Because Angelica's a woman he's (ostensibly) slept with, I feel like Jack takes more guff from her without protest or proper riposte; with Will, he always had a good comeback, a good stop before Will could speak, or just generally seemed irritated by Will. (Well, he has to be irritated by another man rather than intrigued - "gay" doesn't exist in Disney movies, after all. *G*) As interaction with a female goes, I missed, by comparison, his sparring with Elizabeth, because she wasn't someone he had a romantic history or interest with (YMMV on this point), so like with Will, he could turn loose with his verbal smiting on her. And ditto, in return.

Anyone seen this monster yet to discuss as much? (I tried not to put anything in this post that would spoil OST for those who haven't seen it, but comments might well have spoilers - just be forewarned.)

I didn't click to read your spoiler-y post, b/c I haven't seen it yet. Just meant to ask you if you sat there and thought And where is Will? for two hours and a bit? :) Because if it IS that bad, I'll just wait *G* Can't afford any crisis on not-present muses atm *L*

I certainly WANTED Will to show up for my own pleasure, but there were already so many characters going on that I don't know where he would've fit in, if that makes sense. It didn't change MY essential view of Jack, if that helps at all ...

If you can let yourself just go with the flow and enjoy the story for itself, you won't miss Will. My younger sister (who isn't nearly as big a PotC fan as I am) said it was really good and wants to go see it again. She didn't miss Will at all. Like Ver, there was just so much going on, I'm not sure how Will could have been worked in. Just go with it and enjoy the Jackness.:)
