Yes, I have refused to hand over notes in my career. Yes, I've successfully been able to do so. Yes, I would refuse as much in the future and face jail time, provided someone made sure my cat got fed and was cared for during my incarceration.

This is all on a larger scale. On a smaller one, I would privately be delighted to find out through all this that Karl Rove is the one who gave up the CIA operative's name to Novak. Of course, that's not going to happen - it'll turn out to be some lower-level functionary who was ordered to go to the media and who will lose their job/reputation over it.

I don't think "normal" people in the general public - including politicians - realize that for a reporter, jail time for refusing to offer up notes or sources is like a damn Pulitzer. It's always been my dream to be locked up for such a thing (but only as long as it was high-profile, because what's the use, otherwise?).

We bother and confuse the normals. I went to "War of the Worlds" with a friend and during the part where the newswoman asks Tom Cruise if he was in the plane that crashed and says, "Too bad - it would've made a great story," my friend just sat there and shook her head like she couldn't believe it. Whereas, I was sitting there nodding and making the sympathetic face at the screen. LOL.

I refuse to see "War of the Worlds" because Cruise bothers the tar out of me, but I was told about that scene by a co-worker and I totally agree with you! I would have done the same thing as the reporter. Can't help it. We're always looking for that ONE story that will define us.

I went with friends because they wanted to see it, and it was actually pretty good. I was thoroughly bothered by the aliens and what they were doing, and was scared spitless at some parts, scrunching down in my chair every so often.

Because of his arrogance and his "I'm right and everyone else is wrong" attitude. Just because he is a Scientologist does not mean he knows everything and does not mean the media needs to plaster him everywhere.
