It's been 8 years ... damn them, the people have learned to read and think on their own!

'So until at which point in time we feel like the news media is going to treat her with some level of respect and deference, I think it would be foolhardy to put her out into that kind of environment.'

(Translation: Until such time as the GOP can replace Palin's lies with some more general ones reflective of national and international politics, they have to find a scapegoat everybody hates while they effectively say "Shut up, Sarah.")

Sorry, Frau Palin. Elected and wannabe-elected officials are not required to "defer" to me for me to give them free publicity via interviews. You can't demand respect from anyone except those people you gave birth to - you have earn it. YOU chose to run for public office. YOU chose to put yourself on display. I doubt any of us leftist whores of the Fourth Estate told you to do it.

On the other hand ... there are days everybody can love my profession. Sort or reminds me of the naked guy on the interstate overpass who caused two cop cars to wreck in the dead middle of winter. Good times ... :-D

I'm waiting to see what happens when/if we get some VP debates happening. Could be interesting.

Well, I'd be tempted as an editor to tell my reporter covering it not to bother writing anything about her participation in the first one, at least. If we're not good enough for someone to answer questions about their own chosen actions to, then we're not good enough to give her what amounts to free publicity (i.e., answers to prepared questions in a controlled environment, that you can spend extra time on and spin).

Just watched Bill Maher's RealTime from Aug. 29th. One of the panelists recommended him as moderator for a debate. THAT I'd love to see!

"When did it become rude for the media to just ask a question?" (Maher)

THIS. I am SO tired of people bitching at us FOR DOING OUR JOB. If you don't like answering valid questions about your qualifications for service, MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T FUCKIING BE RUNNING FOR AN OFFICE FOR WHICH *I* HELP PAY THE SALARY.

Since no political opinions allowed from me, I'll just admire your icon again.

I'm looking forward to the VP debates, but I'm not holding my breath that even massive failure on her part would sway anyone's vote. Bush did a terrible job and still won.

I've been continually flabbergasted since Palin was announced. Choosing her, claiming she's more than qualified, and now hiding her away with people barely knowing anything about her? I can't imagine the howl that would come from the Republicans if Obama had made a similar move.

Sure you can. Look at the Democrats who've dropped out of races or been forced out by their own party for indiscretions (that are frankly none of my business or yours, or anyone else's) just from the threat of it being used against them by the other side.

Now, think about how many Republicans have done this. Nope. In fact, their party puts them up on a pedestal and runs them anyway, then bitchslaps anyone who tries to point out their indiscretions. It amazes me how "Family Values" gets away with this.

VP debates schedule for 10/2 or 10/3 I believe.

If the news coverage and GOP reactions up to this point are any indicators, Biden will be labeled a sexist for even challenging her. It's particularly frustrating to me.

My feeling about trying to make Biden back down is that of the two major parties, the Democrats have nothing to prove. No, they're far from perfect on minority rights, but so far, theirs is the party that pushes for them. Also, they've HAD minority candidates in the past - several in primaries and one on the Big Ticket as far back as '84. I am really appalled to see the Dems' own ethics used against them - it's more fucking Bush-Style Swiftboating.
