there's a storm coming
Sep. 19th, 2011 02:15 pmA few weeks ago I posted the first bit of a Red Dwarf fic I'd started without any real purpose or direction (you may remember reading it here if you are into that sort of thing). I knew I wanted it to be from McGruder's POV and mostly about her as it went along, and I knew I wanted humor in it.
My brain has lots of electrical activity though, some of it more to short-circuit than do anything useful. *G* While driving to work and listening to the Zune this morning (it's like an iPod with album covers, LOL), for some reason my brain latched onto the idea of Ace showing up to help Yvonne and her son out of some pickle. missflibble's ongoing story about Rimmer-as-Ace and his colony adventure with Mike McGruder - shake well, cook, and I come up with this vague notion of a story about Yvonne as a Sarah Connor-ish ex-Space Corps researcher who's warned by more than one Ace through the years (or just one Ace at different times) to keep Mike safe because the simulants in the far future consider him a top-level enemy and have time-drive technology on a limited basis to try to stop him in childhood. (There's even a scene where Ace is trying to impress upon her the importance of training the kid to be a Marine when he grows up, and Yvonne snapping back that her son will be whatever he damn well chooses to be, and if he doesn't want to go haring off into the military like his inbred uncles, he doesn't have to.)
Only in this, Ace isn't of course the terminator; I just sort of picture him occasionally in the role Schwarz played in T2, when he was the Protector Terminator rather than the Killing Terminator. (And, oh god, their names are both Arnold ...)
