That when it was my time to grow up and leave the home, I knew she'd miss me, but she indicated it wasn't her job to hold me back, cling, and generally make it feel impossible to do so. For this to happen in such a small, isolated town as the one I grew up in - where generations hang around to take low-wage jobs just to keep Mom and Dad happy - was pretty remarkable; I don't know where she learned it from, but her mother-in-law likely served as a prime example of what not to do.
