cupcakes did well
Jul. 11th, 2010 04:38 pmThings I have learned from the fondant animal cupcakes, which seemed to go over well for the shower the other day:
1. If you ever make little anything to go on top of a cupcake, make sure it is LITTLE. Some of these cupcakes kept wanting to tip over the next day, the animal on top was so heavy and kind of large for them, and I had to shove toothpicks through to hold them on. (Which ... is fine so long as you can warn everybody eating a cupcake NOT to just bite down in it.)
2. If you're not comfortable making smaller-scale animals - and I'm not sure I could do that kind of fine work - then just make a cake with them on there. In fact, that may be what I do next time, partly because while the fondant doesn't taste bad, it is WAY too sweet. I felt like Rimmer when he was gorged on carbs in Lister's body, just from eating one (I didn't eat any as I was making them, beyond tasting the fondant a couple of times to make sure it was OK - I don't lick my fingers, I prefer to wash my hands and make sure nobody gets sick).
Thanks to everybody who commented on the cupcakes - I was surprised by how many people were amused/interested, and I felt sort of stupid just typing the same "thank you" over and over again, so I figured I'd say it once here. *G* Oh, and here are better photos without them being down in a box (by the way, the point of the colors is these are the nursery hues):
