It seems like so many people have so many worrying things going on this week. My sister has a surgical consult later this morning about her wrist - apparently there's an expanding cyst that is giving her problems using her right hand. Because of cerebral palsy, her left hand is largely without feeling and not nearly up to snuff to compensate for the loss of any function in the right hand, should something go wrong with a surgery.

Then there's Nat (the adopted second sister), who goes back to university today for the first time in several years. It's not the classes so much as the getting back and forth that worries her (and of course, being able to get a job to start paying for all of this). I'm almost 36 and I don't know how well I would do in a classroom setting again; I'm pretty sure it isn't much different at 27 and probably almost as hard. Yay for Nat! (This is actually good news, but it's Big Nervousness for her, so I include it.)

Then there's at least one f-lister whose husband is being deployed to Iraq in about a week or so (maybe two; it seems I read it). I understand people who join the military have to be ready to fight a war, but they shouldn't be asked to carry out an invasion (and one based on lies, at that). I've heard the reasoning from some people that "well, they joined, they knew what they were getting into." Actually, a lot of people joined before this mess and DIDN'T sign up for this kind of "defense" at all. It's a wasteful use of our armed forces and resources, and then by not properly supplying the troops on top of that, it puts them in heightened danger and undermines their effectiveness not only where they're stationed, but throughout the world as an image.

(And now I'm going from preaching to meddling. I'm not looking for any comments, I'm just posting. If you want to think good thoughts for these people, the great Karmic Calculator would probably appreciate it.)
