According to the good folks with CNN and the AP, Heath Ledger is dead. It remains to be seen if, in the words of Samuel Clemens, reports of such have been exaggerated.

Friend beldar, who is a fellow editor, has the AP version, albeit brief, on his LJ if you want to zip over and scan it. I'm sure it'll be updated this evening.

EDIT: For the love of pete, please get your news from a reputable source, NOT some place like TMZ (nobody who's commented has indicated they do; this is more of a general teeth-gnashing at seeing THEIR name attached to anything with "news" on it). I wouldn't trust a TMZ reporter to scrub my toilet without dropping a cherry bomb in there; I certainly wouldn't trust them to tell me what's going on.

I just read an article about it. I honestly can't believe he's dead. I'm practically waiting for a report saying that it's all a hoax. I'm not a huge fan, but he was such a talented actor and so young. It's horrible.

I'm with starrdust411 - I keep waiting for a report that says it's mistaken identity or something. It just does not compute, so far as I knew, he didn't have a serious drug or alcohol problem or anything else going on.

28 is far too young to go. So is 24, which I believe is how old Brad Renfro was when he passed a few days ago.

Sounds like it may have been an accidental overdose on sleeping pills. I hope so for the sake of his daughter. I was surprised to read he and Michelle Williams split last year.

Don't forget that Owen Wilson recently attempted suicide. Thankfully he did not succeed and hopefully has gotten the help he needs.

What's so so very sad about this is that it always happens to the best and brightest, when so many others with far less talent run their life at a 24/7/365 party pace and yet survive.
