EEEEEEEEE!

There's a teaser trailer up for the new Star Trek movie coming out this December - it's about a minute long, be patient with the download. (Trust me - it's really cool, no actors or spoilers, just music and voiceovers and machinery.) Gosh, I didn't realize how much I've missed Trek these past few years until I saw this.

Oh, and this was my amusement factor for the day - the part about Orlando's nomination for AWE. *eyeroll* (Which was totally ameliorated by the Trek trailer. EEEEEE!)

Well you saw my reaction (to the Trek thing, anyway). Once I heard that voice, I was done for.

When I was ten years old and already an obsessional die hard Trekkie, my dad (the Voice of Reason™) would say "In five years, nobody will remember Star Trek even existed." HAH! Now I'm fifty and look what we're getting next Christmas. I'm gonna have to rub Dad's nose in that a little ;)

I, too, heard The Man's voice. (Is he going to be in it?)

The bent that this trailer gives this whole idea is similar to the way ST:ENT was promoted. That promise was shattered when it came time to deliver. I hope it turns out better this time around - but I didn't think to scan the credits for the Killer Bs (Brannon and Braga), so I don't know if I should start worrying now or wait for the next trailer. :-/

Sorry about the pessimism, but prequels have an even worse track record than sequels. :-p

I don't know about Berman and Braga, but from what I understand, Abrams has pretty much always been given free rein with his projects - so maybe it's all him. Heh - "Lost" in Space, anyone?

And yes, The Man is in it.

I have to say that I'm a little more than half-dreading this movie. From what I've read they are ruining Spock's origins, IMHO, and that alone may be just enough to keep me from seeing it. Not even Nimoy's supposedly being in it somehow is enough to make me forgive the screwing around with Spock's origins. To put it bluntly, it's going to have to be one hell of a story to get me to put aside what I've read they're doing enough to go see the movie. I'm trying to hold off judgment, but I'm still ticked about what I read.

Shatner is supposedly extremely disappointed that they didn't work him into the movie somehow. I can't say that I have feelings on that one way or the other - Next Gen and DS9 were more my Trek than TOS, although there are certainly things I love about TOS, and the movies. But I never really got attached to Kirk. The rest of the crew yes. Kirk, no.

All that said, I do have to give them props on the teaser trailer. It is definitely cool.

Doubt I'll be seeing this one in the theaters. From what I've heard, it sounds like a rehash of a crappy idea Harve Bennett pitche some 20 years ago, an idea that was so panned at the time Bennett got bounced from the trek-verse.

And yeah, I saw the Razzie thing, too. They must've seen a different preformance than the one I saw.

Paramount ruined Trek with too many spin-offs. It's obvious they can no longer do anything original with Trek, because Gene was its only true creator, which is why TOS and Next Gen will always be so fondly remembered. There were episodes of DS9 and Voyager I enjoyed and I like Scott Bakula, so even Enterprise was tolerable, but the originality was gone. No iconic characters were created. The only one that comes to mind is the Doctor on Voyager. And mostly you have to thank actor Robert Picardo for that. The dude even got one of the biggest laughs in Star Trek:First Contact, for nebula's sake.
