Word of the Day

Word of the Day for Thursday, December 18, 2008
hackneyed \HAK-need\, adjective:

1. used too often; commonplace
2. habituated; experienced

Special sense of "one who writes anything for hire" led to hackneyed "trite" by 1749.

Well, gee, I didn't need dictionary.com to decide my ego for the day. Thanks a lot, Interwebs ...

Which is where 'hack reporter' comes from as well, presumably? I found a rather more complementary definition, which I think is more applicable in your case:

"A talented writer-for-hire, paid to put others' thoughts into felicitous language."

There. That's more like it *g*

Well, yes, OK, that does make me feel better. (And even if I'm trite, at least I don't steal, LOL ...)
