From what I've been seeing since Tuesday, this bringing up the Africa gaffe is part of an ongoing tension (to put it mildly) between the Palin and McCain camps. Frankly, I'd forgotten about it until now. Maybe the McCain people are looking to scapegoat Palin, and using this as one of their many excuses?
