Notes from a dragon godmother

Dear f-list:

Your Neopetsesque baby dragons and dragon eggs, and scary-as-hell miniatures of Audrey II with vines and mouths and various other tentacles are adorable. But as someone who spends roughly one-third of her time on LiveJournal these days clicking on every god- blessed, one, I feel a right of intrusiveness as a sort of scaly godmother, and have a couple of suggestions:

1. When your eggs and dragons take up more space on a journal entry than the words you type, maybe it is time to stop adopting new eggs. Move slowly AWAY from the pixellated Jurassic Park. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN YOU ALREADY HAVE.

2. If you start naming them after the Winchester brothers' imaginary grandchildren, so help me, I WILL defriend you. This includes my sister, should she ever figure out where the adoption site is. (Please, don't tell her.)

As for all the rest of you who are dragonfree by choice - keep clicking for your friends. It's what all us cool kids do!

My kids had a Tamagochi once, and it beeped constantly. I finally hid the damn thing and it died.

They didn't speak to me for weeks...

My sister had one of those when she was much younger. Somehow, Mom ended up taking care of it and actually paid attention to it. This went on for a few months, at least, until the battery gave out.

Good god how much I hate those things!
When I was working at a youth club, the smaller kids that came there after school had those... Arrgh! I can still hear the noise they made! Beep...Beepbeep...beeeeep.

Beep!

haha, I loved those. I hate the dragons though, they give my laptop nasty viruses.

Just out of curiosity, since none of the kids could never really explain the fascination, (they were amazing with talking about religion, though...) What's so great about those manifestations of pure evil in their vilest? I mean, the head ache alone had me looking for a sledge hammer, not to mention the annoyance.

It was...fun. You fed the thing, played with it, watched it grow. There was a mini accomplishment in having them survive to adulthood. It was like a plastic, digital pet, but one that was even fun when it pooped or cried. Plus it beeped. I didn't have any computer games or shit like that when I was a kid so it was also really high tech for me, which was also fun. The one I had was a baby, not an animal, and I loved that stupid thing. I was so sad when the battery died and the back had a dodgy screw so I couldn't replace it.
