"He's gone. He'll come back with a script sometime."

My sister showed me this article which gives more credence to Depp being cast to play The Riddler in Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie (hell, I didn't even know when it was less credence). Of the entire thing, my most amusing bit is at the end - and has nothing to do with the casting and everything to do with the writer, Nolan:

Meanwhile, when asked if he had seen a script yet, Caine responded "No. He's gone. He'll come back with a script sometime."

Wow. I had thought that the man who wrote and directed Memento could make an excellent Riddler movie; didn't realize it could actually happen.

Depp? I can see it. Hoffman as Penguin could work, too.

I know, it's just rumor, but perhaps it was a feeler put out for fan reaction. We'll see.

I'd love to see Johnny and Christian Bale in another movie with each other (Public Enemies, next year), but as there's not even a script for Batman 3 yet, I rather doubt it. That and I think Nolan said he was thinking of going with lesser known villains than the Riddler.

Michael Caine is made of win.
