In my ongoing quest to straighten out a morbidly fucked-up body, my doctor and I are experimenting with various things, including some amphetamines he prescribed yesterday to give me energy and suppress appetite (not that eat much, but I guess the idea was that I would learn how to scale down to carrots and celery full-time).

NO I AIN'T TAKING THAT NO MORE AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME AIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE

Everything was peachy for about five hours and I was Alerty McWorkistan. Then, the effects wore off and I had a bitch of a headache, horrible stomach gas, wanted to sleep, and ... cold arms!

The hell?

How do people get addicted to this? Or cigarettes? Shit, alcoholism is the only real thing I can get behind. Well, liquor and maybe narcotics.

WHERE'S THE MESCALINE?

I haz coca tea for youuuuuu. :D God knows if it'll help, but it's supposed to aid digestion, help with arthritic pain, give you an energy boost, and if nothing else, will hopefully make you giggle. Whatcha want me to do with it, luv?

Jeepers. Amphetamines are EEEV0L! Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I used to take speed on a weekly basis. Yes, I was slimmer than I'd ever been before. Yes, I was super-fucking miserable too. I got all the side-effects you describe, plus a feeling of dissociation and seediness, more commonly known as a comedown (;D).

*hugs you and passes the orange juice - it helps*

Good think you went for the less powerful stuff, eh? Yeah, anything that suppresses the appetite seems to upset the stomach (in my limited experience), but so does the hard liquor (and that hasn't slowed me down a bit). Did s/he mention if there was anything lighter?

And I imagine folks get addicted by not caring overmuch about their health and popping the next pill before the first one wears off. (Not that I'd know.)

I hope your arms warmed up. (Are you OK?) Ain't drug experimentation fun?

Here. *points at icon* My remedy for everything. :)

Your doctor seriously gave you amphetamines for appetite suppression? I'm sorry but ... holy shit *jaw-drop* There are really REALLY good reasons why doctors quit doing that. I'm just boggling here.

Whoa. How much do you trust your doctor? I mean, does he seem okay to you, semi-competent, really competent, etc.?

I don't like the idea of drugs to help someone lose weight. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Now, the addiction thing... I can't say I'm addicted to cigarettes since I smoke maybe 4 packs a year, but the alcohol and narcotics, I can get behind.

I hope you're feeling better today and were able to sleep last night!

There's a reason some people get addicted to these things and some don't. Some people like being miserable.
