About a year ago, a replica of one of Columbus' boats--the NiƱa, I think--came putt-putting sailing up the Mississippi, and I got to go on board that. It was damn tiny. I remember reading something about a hundred men sleeping on the deck, and I'm not sure how they physically managed it unless there was creative stacking involved, or people sleeping in the rigging. :P
