I think it's more the actors than the writers, myself, but I will admit they DO put them into some interesting situations. (And the more I think about it, the more I'm coming to sort of *like* Captain Turner, dammit - all those poor souls lost and waiting to get to their loved ones beyond the veil. Will is the perfect personality to care for them, sort of like a big brother/daddy/buddy/mentor all in one.)
