It's a dark day in American history, but I'm looking fabulous in my all-black ensemble which inclues a sparkly trio of cats on my chest (courtesy of my dad's girlfriend as a Christmas gift). I may be pissed off, but there's no reason to look poorly doing it.

I'm committed to only checking the newsfeed two or three times today. I don't think it's realistic to ask people to not look at ALL, because I want to know if there's real news going on in the world, but I'm going to endeavor not to give Nuclear Cheeto more clicks and hits today. Because attention is what he craves and I've no desire to facilitate THAT.

I bought myself a small breakfast burrito and TWO small iced coffees at BK this morning; it's going to be a LONG day. Fortunately I have a job to keep me busy; unfortunately, it's in news, so I can't escape the day's events entirely. I have, however, so far overseen several weeks of news stories following the election, some of which have been about Cheeto, and am glad to say I think they've been fair (meaning, not filled with effusive praise, some quoting people with real concerns about him - which in the professional circles I run, is hard to come by for any Republican). I'm doing my small part for journalism in the Age of Lies.

So, what are you all wearing? Are you staying away from social media mentions of Cheeto?

Not being American, this obviously isn't as bad for me as it is for you. It's just a distant hum of worry and despair, which is bad enough, but we have our own problems with Brexit.

I just can't quite believe they're actually going through with it. When practically everyone with any sense knows it'll be a disaster.

I'm referring mostly to Trump but also to Brexit. I'm just numb and avoiding news as much as I can because I don't need to set off my anxiety again. :/

You and me both. We do seem to be living in the age of total stupidlty right now. It can't end well.

Ages of stupidity in the past eventually faded out. It can't end well for US, but maybe for younger people, they'll have a better world for what we're wading through right now. :-/

I was out of the country, which gave me some sense of separation from it all. I am still in denial, even though obviously I know it's happening. I cannot accept that that man is the president of my country though. I just... I can't. Every time someone brings him up I just get so angry and depressed. I think I'm still rapidly cycling through all the stages of grief, but I keep skipping over acceptance and just starting all over again.

As a news editor of sorts (we aren't general news; we fulfill a niche market, but still plenty of tie-in with federal policy and such), I have a minor amount of influence over coverage of some of his actions, so I go to work every day intending to contribute in some small way to peeling the curtain back off the little man behind the megaphone. Our readers, I suspect, are largely his fans, so the work is really cut out for us.
